If you look up at the clouds right now, you will likely see that clouds are mostly grey. Sure, there is a lot of white, but in the the dense parts of the clouds you will see grey. I darkened this image a little to emphasize the swirling bits near the top. At no time was I (or my gear) in danger of being rained on.
