Photographs on Location at Crocus Hill Oriental Medicine

Anna Perry, Acupuncturist
Crocus Hill Oriental Medicine in St. Paul, MN

I have been going to Crocus Hill Oriental Medicine for at least 10 years now for everything form muscle pain to snoring to blood pressure issues. I like having needles stuck in me and then taking a little nap for 30 minutes with Native American flute music playing in the background.

I have two photographs from my Illness and Healing series on display there through this spring. Both of these photographs were taken at the Islands of Peace park in Fridley, MN. There is the occasional shallow stream that runs through the park and a little bridge that goes over it. These photographs are interesting to me because each shows the surface of the water, what is beneath the water, and what is reflected above. And, they are printed on a shiny metallic paper which looks really beautiful in the natural light.

Foot-In-The-Door Show at the Minneapolis Institute of Art

A new decade means it's time again for the Foot-In-The-Door Show and the MIA.

Foot In The Door 4
Friday, February 19, 2010—Sunday, June 13, 2010
Minnesota Artists Exhibition Gallery
Free Exhibition

Opening reception: Thursday, February 18, 2010

Foot in the Door 4 is an open exhibition for all Minnesota artists, which takes place every ten years at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Since 1980, Foot in the Door has celebrated the diversity and enthusiasm of Minnesota's visual arts community.

The one restriction about exhibiting is that your work, of any type, must fit in a 12 inch by 12 inch box. You could be Alec Soth or Joe Schmoe and if the art fits in the box, it's in the show.

I was in Foot In The Door 3 in 2000, so now I will be able to say, "Yes, I've had a couple of works displayed in the largest art museum in Minnesota."

One cool thing about FITD is that they photograph your work and your art becomes part of the permanent MIA website. Even today, if you search my name on the MIA website, you will see my "Pilgrim" photograph that I had in the exhibit in 2000. This year, look for my Exploding Crab.

(Okay, I dropped off today right as they opened. Actually, 20 minutes before they opened, but they were taking submissions anyway. It took me 35 minutes to get through the line to submit. People who dropped off Friday in the middle of the day may have had to wait more than 2 hours. suckas!)

About Me

My Photo
Michael McGraw
Minneapolis, MN, United States
Photographer/Artist based in Mpls, MN. I have a studio in the NE Arts District--Studio #274 at the Northrup King Bldg, 1500 Jackson St NE. I photograph elements of nature to explore color, shape, and composition. I am currently pairing images as diptychs to invite a closer examination of urban nature. The photographs of trees that you see here are all taken in Minneapolis or Chicago along the side of highways and well-traveled city streets where the beauty of these trees is often overlooked.
